What's the Difference Between a Service Wash and a Wash-and-Fold Laundry Service?

Posted on

If you're a busy working mum, rushing between school runs and after school activities whilst holding down a full-time job, you probably won't have time to do everything you need to in the way of household chores. Using a mobile wash-and-fold laundry service can free up valuable time, which you can spend with your family instead. However, you may have heard the terms "wash-and-fold laundry service" and "service wash" mentioned. This clearly means that, although both options see your laundry collected and returned to you, the two services are not entirely the same.

So, what's the difference? Read on for a quick overview to help you choose the right service for your requirements.

Wash-and-fold laundry service

With a wash-and-fold laundry service, your linens are collected from your home at a prearranged time convenient to you and are taken to the service provider's premises.

Each item is booked in individually, piece by piece. Every piece is then checked for staining and is pre-treated before washing. Any items that are particularly grubby are pre-treated and soaked before they are washed. Extremely dirty pieces will receive this treatment more than once if necessary.  All the items are washed and then dried before being individual pressed in a professional-grade linen press.

The end result is hotel-quality laundry, which is then individually wrapped in paper packaging to keep it immaculate before it is returned to you.

All items that are sent to a wash-and-fold laundry service are generally charged for at a rate per piece.

Service wash

A service wash is collected from your home and taken away for treatment.

All your items of laundry are washed as a job lot en-masse, rather than individually, and are not pre-treated or soaked. The laundry is not checked for damage or heavy staining, and nothing is itemised. However, you can specify whether you want the wash split into light and dark items or whether you would prefer non-bio detergent to be used.

Once washed, everything is tumble dried together. The pieces are not pressed but instead are smoothed and folded while still warm, which keeps creasing to a minimum. All the items are returned to you folded in a bag.

Service washes are usually priced per kilogram of weight, rather than by individual item.
